THE OPPORTUNITY

What happens when young Black girls have the opportunity to see their potential as entrepreneurs as early as 13 years old?

They beat the odds, with businesses surviving beyond five years of maturity, thereby fueling the American economy and contributing to the communities they serve.

THE PROGRAM

Founded and developed by Kimberly Fomby Jefferson, Ed.D., the Mini MBA for Girls is a pathway from inspiration to possibility to action.

Grounded in her scholarly research, Investigating Outcomes Associated With the Lived Experiences of Self-employed Black Women Business Owners, the Mini MBA for Girls addresses documented patterns of struggle at its root—equipping historically underserved girls with the tools to launch and sustain successful ventures before adulthood.

THE PROGRAM

The Mini MBA by the Sucré Consortium is a 12-week hybrid program for high school girls. Our program features ready-made curricula in business education, taught by world-class, real-world industry practitioners.

OUR MISSION

To empower historically underserved girls with the business education and practical tools needed to launch and sustain successful businesses—increasing their access to financial stability and reducing the likelihood of business failure.

    Carmen is a UX practitioner and educator with 20 years of experience at Target, Shopify, and United Airlines, and a decade of instructional leadership. Her background bridges architecture and information design—a rare ability to think about systems, space, and user experience.

  • Dr. Carol Hedgspeth

    Regional Instructor, SF Bay Area

    Dr. Carol A. Hedgspeth is the founder of The Brilliance Lab, a coaching and consulting practice for women of color in education and nonprofit leadership. With 25+ years as a researcher and organizational leader, she brings academic rigor and equity-centered practice to her work.

  • Eniafe Isis

    Regional Instructor, Los Angeles

    Eniafe is an entrepreneur and nonprofit professional with 16 years of experience in event production, project management, and public relations. Her work connects community, culture, and operational excellence to create lasting impact. She holds a B.A. from Fordham University.

  • Michael Sanders

    Regional Instructor, New Orleans

    Michael is a multifunctional practitioner in communications, arts, and higher education, with experience at Meta, PlayStation, Google, and Apple, and institutions like Howard and Harvard. He co-founded Harvard Alumni for Education and taught at the University of Maryland.

Program Details

  • The Mini MBA for Girls is a 12-week program contracted directly with school districts and community organizations.

  • Cohorts are capped at 15 students to ensure a focused, high-quality experience.

  • Up to 8 schools per district partnership are accepted each semester.

  • The Sucré Consortium handles all curriculum development, instruction, and program delivery. Districts and partner organizations provide access and space.

  • Instructors are based in the metro area they serve, ensuring local presence and community familiarity.

  • The Mini MBA for Girls is currently offered in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York City, and New Orleans, with plans to expand to additional metro areas.

  • While the program's research is rooted in the lived experiences of self-employed Black women business owners, the Mini MBA for Girls serves a broader community. Girls who are Black, of African descent, Latina, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, multiracial, or from other historically underserved communities are welcome in this program. Girls of any background enrolled at a partner school are welcome to participate.

  • WE DO NOT OFFER QUARTERLY WAITLISTS. WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO APPLY FOR THE FOLLOWING QUARTERS BY THE DEADLINES. WE PROCESS PARTNER APPLICATIONS ON A FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED BASIS. 

  • WE PLAN ON EXPANDING IN THE NEAR FUTURE, BUT HAVE LIMITS TO ENSURE OUR INSTRUCTOR-TO-STUDENT RATIOS PROVIDE A MAXIMUM EXPERIENCE AND OUTCOMES.
